I thought....

Ok, after a great wedding and honeymoon I expected to see what the liberals have been voting and supporting take effect. I thought by the time I got back Obama would have United the world and rid the earth of racism when in fact promoting it. I thought Unemployment would be at zero when somehow it's over 9%. I thought Kim Jong Ill would get together with the UN and Obama and say he's sorry instead of laughing in their faces. I thought Democracy and capitalism would be wiped off the map forever due to it's evil successes of creating the greatest country in the world. I'd thought we'd all join hands as we happily kill partially birthed babies and let old people die without medicine. I thought we'd have a new joyous health care system where I could wait in line bleeding to get to a doctor. I thought we were to have a constitutional convention to Change America and it's constitution. I thought we would take all Guns away so criminals can sneak them in through the black market and rob and kill easier while the government terrorizes it's citizens into complete fear.  I thought Obama would abolish Bush's tax cuts and create taxes to kill large businesses and small business while dropping the class rate to a lower class all around. I thought we could spend more money the country does not have to pay of more constituents while raising ACORN up on high. I thought we can attack anything Christian while raising other religions up to look good.  I thought we could let the government run more than just the banks and car industry. I thought we can spend millions on the Obama date nights. I thought we can give more secrets of our previous administration for political gain and forget about safety. I thought our government could continue to call it's own citizens terrorists over the real extremists in the middle east. I thought liberals were actually human....

Some on this list is happening, others they are trying to make happen. Maybe my wife and I should go back into another honeymoon.

My transition into the political world and the wonderful conservatism thought

As you've read I am young at age 23. I'll be 24 in less than two weeks. This election has taught me many things, as seen by the many posts that I've read and articles by townhall and other political debating websites. I've looked at democratic sites, libertarian sites, republican sites, and of course I've ended up here on conservative sites. I'd like to write a little about my transition to conservatism and hopefully you will feel where I'm coming from.

I grew up in a very conservative house, with my father being a Lutheran minister and my mother a masters in music, teaching piano, guitar, flute, while playing the organ at church and substituting for our school's music teacher. I lived a majority of my life in the tiny town of Elk-Horn, Iowa. This is a small Danish town of 600. My parents didn't force their beliefs onto me, as to leave me search for what I thought was right. I do believe in God,  fiscal responsibility, working for success and not just expecting it, freedom of speech and religion and the rest of the amendments. I believe less government interference will make happier citizens, unlike the former citizens of the USSR. (They did not like their lives under communist rule). I believe in our military, whom I support 100% and thank every one of you whom have served. I believe in immigration, (legal) and the blessing of having such a diversified country.

I started college at the University of Dubuque in Iowa. This is a small private, Presbiterian University. My first semester was during the race of Bush and Kerry. I was registered independant, being legal to vote for the first time.  I really hadn't had much thought about politics, but more of where my future was taking me. So I decided to update myself and go to some republican and democratic meetings that our college held. What I learned between the two groups was frightful. On one side of the room the republicans sat. The republicas held many of our local ROTC guys, Christians, and other friends I had made during the first semester. They talked about the Iraq war, Afghanistan, Immigration reform, and also trying to use conservative methods in the government.  What I saw is that they were very passionate about the war and our veterans. Now the startling difference was the democrats. There were some people whom I thought were nice until they argued about politics, some homosexuals, and some known athiests. They argued that being gay was a gene that you were born with, republicans were nothing but pork spenders, the Iraq war was for oil, partial birth abortion is a woman's choice, stem-cell research, and amnesty to all illegals. During this time I listened and watched to each side to take into account where my beliefs stand. At the end of the debate I noticed how much emotional hatred was shown by the Democrats and the emoction by the Republicans stand on military ventures. Talking with my friends we decided to look into the two candidates, Kerry and Bush. We each talked about the economy, Iraq and Afghanistan, and through research thought that Bush was a better candidate. (Imagine Kerry taking charge of both wars, he spends more on botox than  we have on those wars). After Bush was re-elected my college education continued normally and I just strayed away from politics almost alltogether.

Now, Jr. year from 2006-2007 we had many democrats and republicans visit. I unfortunately missed several, but I remember when Hillary came to our Univeristy. The staff went NUTS! We had a local millionaire build an entirely new building for classes, and it's first month Hillary made a speech there. I heard what thought was better for the US, and decided that she is not the candidate I wanted. Mitt Romney was an interesting candidate who visited, and then came Obama. I thought people were nuts with Hillary. People were swooning, yelling, hanging on every word thinking if they missed one the world would end. I was shocked and surprised at the euphoria caused by his speech. His speech sounded a little to odd to me, so I decided to look into Obama's political career. He has written two books, and has voted present as a majority of it. I was shocked that he made it to the national stage. So, graduating in May of '08 I moved out to Denver near my family. During this time I strayed away from politics again, until the Democratic convention came to town. This was when Denver went absolutely bonkers. Many people I knew were opening their homes for people to stay in, many others went on vacation to get away from the madness that would ensue, and the tv was streaming with nothing but that giant party at Invesco field. When Obama became the Democratic elect, I thought that a majority of his speeches were anti-Bush, and that was the only reason he got there. When McCain became the Republican elect, and selected Gov. Sarah Palin, I researched those two. Sarah Palin was the only person on the ticket I liked. She was clean, conservative, hard worker who was brutally attacked for her beliefs.

At this point I realized that conservatism was the way for me. I saw the handling of the election race, and it sickened me. Many kids my age voted just for Obama because of his race, or his ability to cause a certain anger towards republicans. I realized that since I'm 23, I have to learn many aspects of whats going on with the candidates, their stances and views, and the possible affects of each candidates views on our society. I did not like Obama's at all. In fact when I became a member here on townhall, I realized how those people who voted for Obama think. It really makes me wonder how can emotion lead to a better life. We have the ability to think, and the ability to look for information. Unfortunately those people either don't, or they believe what they hear on the news or some professor's views. I now read more polical books and articles, such as these on townhall, and posts from those of you who frequent townhall.com. I believe that we could use more Sarah Palins in our government, as our government is full of people who live in an alternate world from 'us' regular citizens.  I personally believe that subjects such as abortion are misconstrued and taken out of proportion. Abortion to me is a sense of irresponsibility. Killing an inocent child who has no say in life seems unfair to me. I have a friend who's mom tried to abort her. It didn't work and she was born. Try telling her abortion is right. When pulled the rape question, how many rapes do you hear end up in pregnancies? There also is adoption, (where I got a sister from). Gitmo should stay open, considering waterboarding is like giving a kid a swirlie in the toilet, and gitmo is in better shape then our prison, so full of illegals that it just makes the taxpayers add more expenses on their ever growing list of taxes. Iraq is a success, and Al Queda has not had a successful attack on us in years.

This is somewhat of a shortened view of my transition to the political world and conservatism. Here on townhall I have found many that think like me. Many posters here on townhall are articulate, calm, intelligent, humorous, religious, patriots who care about America. (the conservatives at least). Seeing many of the lefts' posters and their beliefs it made me thank God that I believe I have chosen the right path. I like many of you will continue to make our voices heard. I hope this post was educational for you, as I will continue to post more in the future and read many more of yours also.
